Foundational Research for a Healthcare Software App
The Challenge
Imprivata had developed Cortext, a HIPAA compliant text messaging application for doctors and others in the medical field. The PM & design team wanted to understand the working environment(s) of individuals in the healthcare space when they communicate with a particular person or role about patient care. This was particularly important because communication about patient care would extend beyond any one doctor or health care professional's shift. The "role" of the caregiver remained constant and the underlying person in that role would change. The research focused on the "on call" environment. The Process Imprivata conducted a series of primary research sessions, interviewing doctors, nurses, and a unit secretary across a spectrum of medical environments. Most of the interviewees were from Imprivata's Clinician Consultant network. Pain points were gathered, different ecosystems analyzed and synthesized and recommendations made. The Result As a result of the research, the validity of the importance of the role "state" was confirmed and the original solution for the product was re-examined to see how it could include study findings for supporting tool integration, encouraging user behaviour shifts to facilitate new functionality. |
